New 3 year UK Youth Mobility Visa in 2024

New UK Youth Mobility Visa 3 year

The new Australia-United Kingdom Free Trade Agreement has finally come into effect. This has resulted in new arrangements for Australians applying for the UK Youth Mobility Visa from the 31st of January 2024. After this date, Aussies will be able to:

  • Apply for the UK Youth Mobility Visa between the ages of 18 and 35 years old (inclusive). This is a five year increase from the current maximum of 30 years old (inclusive). Hence, over 30 year olds can apply for the visa now.
  • Extend their UK Youth Mobility by one more year so they can now live and work in the UK for up to three years.

These new changes are great for Aussies! I can see many people deciding to extend their stay for another year, especially where there is no need to go through the hassle of getting sponsored. It also means 30 to 35 year old Aussies who may not have had the chance to live overseas in their 20s, now have the opportunity to move to the UK.

What this means for Aussies living in the UK after January 2024:

  • Imagine spending another year travelling through the UK and Europe when you have already lived in the UK for 2 years. You would have already have a home in the UK, a regular job and you would be a very experienced traveller.
  • It will give you more time to live in different cities in the UK. Gone are the days where Aussies only live in London. Why not try living in a different part of the UK for your third year? I recommend Bristol. Not bias at all 🙂
  • It will give you more time to find a job willing to sponsor your visa if you want to stay.
  • It means 30-35 year old Australians with established careers can move to the UK. This is a huge plus as a better income will help you manage the costs of living in the UK. It also gives you the option of having more UK and Europe experiences and trips.
  • It gives you more options and flexibility to decide what kind of UK experience you want.
